BMTX is seeking an execution-oriented and strong team player who can work across the organization and manage our Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.


The ideal candidate possesses fin-tech experience, with a focus on end-to-end SOX Compliance. The candidate must have a firm grasp of technical accounting and SOX methodologies (controls design, risk assessment, testing strategies, etc.) and must have knowledge of process flow mapping, design and documentation of controls, controls testing, evaluation of control deficiencies, and remediation plans.


Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to effectively manage external partners (external auditors, outsourcing partners, control owners) who assist us with SOX compliance, demonstrate proficient project management skills, superior communication (written and oral), and organizational skills.


This highly visible and strategic role will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer and will include extensive collaboration with leaders from across the Company, including the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.



  • Responsibilities:

    • Plan, implement, coordinate, and execute all phases of SOX compliance, to include leading walkthroughs and identifying/validating key controls, developing test procedures, executing and documenting testing, and reporting results to Management, internal, and external audit.
    • Collaborate with process owners to identify key controls, document descriptions, and update supporting control documentation accordingly (e.g., process flows, narratives).
    • Manage and perform SOX testing and ensure testing results are appropriately documented and communicated, including detail review of outsourcing partners execution of SOX procedures.
    • Update documentation including process flowcharts, process narratives, risk and controls matrices, and evaluate controls as new systems are developed and/or processes change.
    • Ensure clear, concise, actionable, and practical observations and recommendations, with a well-documented process for communication and clearance.
    • Review any control deficiencies and work with process owners to ensure appropriate action plans are developed and executed.
    • Coordinate with internal and external auditors on the annual SOX testing plan and provide support to them to ensure timely and smooth completion of SOX projects.
    • Lead SOX learning and development program for both new staff/experienced personnel.
    • Assist with the development of presentations to internal stakeholders including Management Committees and the Audit Committee.


    • BA/BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
    • Appropriate certification in accounting and/or auditing is mandatory, including a CPA, CA, and/or CIA.
    • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, COSO, PCAOB Auditing Standards, Sarbanes-Oxley, risk and controls standards, and business process best practices required.
    • A minimum of five years of experience in internal/external audit with direct SOX experience in a financial services environment required, Big 4 experience is preferred.
    • Experience developing risk assessments, control narratives, and control matrices.
    • Proficient at developing and conducting design and effectiveness tests of internal controls.
    • Strong organizational, project management, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
    • Self-motivated, flexible, quick learner who works well with others at various levels.
    • Strong all around technology skills, including MS Office products (Excel, Word, Visio, Access).
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
