Overview

Program Background

We’re a large bank that’s reinventing banking by focusing on the unmet needs of millennial and underbanked consumers to provide frictionless and free banking with the full suite of financial products. We’re building a disruptive multi-partner distribution model, known as “Bank as a Service”, that places our innovative bank products in natural account opening moments as part of multiple startup banking brands. Our banking experience is built with a customer-centric digital-first model and requires industrial-strength financial technologies and innovation, and the treatment of customer data is a key to our strategic success.

Position Accountability

Design, build, operate, and monitor our “Bank as a Service” data capability, including operational reporting, monthly business reviews, end to end data architecture design, cloud data technology ownership, and emerging data science capabilities. Aid in yielding effective business outcomes and learnings by providing stakeholders access to a cohesive, well-organized, repeatable, and comprehensive reports that can be leveraged via multiple methods from summary reports, to interactive drill-downs, to data extracts from one common solution. Provide multiple stakeholders, including BaaS partners, with access to substantially similar information while accounting for information security access differences. Ensure the data pipeline infrastructure meets non-functional requirements such as scalability, performance, and reliability through effective architecture design and directing performance engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

Expected Outcomes

  • Multiple business stakeholders have access to single cohesive reporting framework that can service all their needs, from daily KPI’s, to product-based funnel management reports, to exception reports and anomaly detection, to detailed data extracts
  • Provide leaders have access to the right data visualizations to facilitate validated learning and ongoing improvement of BankMobile’s BaaS banking products
  • Cloud data pipelines are developed and supported in an efficient fashion to ensure large, complex data sets are effectively maintained and continuously augmented
  • Manual processes around data delivery are identified so that automation can be designed and implemented for greater scalability and organizational efficiency
  • Infrastructure is configured for optimal extraction, transform and loading of data from a wide variety of external sources
  • Cloud-based analytics tools will make extensive use of our highly reliable data infrastructure to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, product performance, fraud detection and other key business performance metrics
  • Knowledge sharing is performed across all technology teams to increase business alignment, quality and efficiency
  • Partners are satisfied with our level of professionalism and technical expertise

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Strategy, design, execution, and operational support for operational reporting capability. Provide multiple business stakeholders with near-real-time, repeatable, valuable, directly interactive, and accurate operational reports, in an effort to dramatically improve customer funnel management, product improvement updates, fraud management, and more efficiently provide insights into the operating business such that “reports” can be easily transitioned to “business applications” where warranted. Must effectively balance current state manual operational reports with warehouse reports, with new reporting technologies.
  • Accountable for all monthly business review reporting to the our bank partner programs, including timely delivery, accuracy, efficiency, repeatability, and ongoing improvement
  • Logical and physical design of all persistent stores including structured RDBMS tables, unstructured JSON messages, service bus topics, REDIS cache, and functional and non-functional log data. Ensure “vertical” separation of concerns such that domain-driven design drives the disposition of banking and partner data storage, for distributing the BM bank product to multiple partners efficiently. Also ensure “horizontal” separation of concerns such that non-functional considerations, including criticality of data and future querability, drive the disposition of what data gets stored in structured vs. non-structured persistent stores. The first major design initiatives will be joint accounts and customer journey funnel management.
  • Ensure all data technologies meet non-functional requirements including backups, disaster recovery, security standards, reliability, availability, and scalability. Perform periodic audits or tests of the data technologies and data storage and identify gaps for remediation. Ensure the system can scale to millions of accounts and billions of transactions in a cost-effective fashion
  • Explore data science/AI innovations for minimally supervised detection of abnormal customer behaviors, in an effort to detect fraud, detect customer funnel issues, or to discover product innovations
  • Develop and maintain ETL workflows for both SQL Server and Azure Data Explorer systems while exhibiting leadership around integrating other potential technology solutions
  • Collaborate with business units to help define our data analytics strategy with the goal of building and driving adoption of a new unified business intelligence platform
  • Continuously monitor our business for new opportunities to automate inefficient internal processes around data acquisition and availability
  • Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at multiple levels within the organization
  • Foster teamwork, communication, collaboration while managing competing priorities

About BankMobile:

Established in 2015, BankMobile is a division of Customers Bank and America’s largest and fastest growing mobile-first bank offering checking and savings accounts. BankMobile provides an alternative banking experience to the traditional model and is focused on technology, innovation, easy-to-use products and education with the mission of being “customer-obsessed” and creating “customers for life.” The disruptive, multi-partner distribution model, known as “Bank-as-a-Service,” created by the executive team enables BankMobile to acquire customers at higher volumes and substantially lower expense than traditional banks. Its low-cost operating model enables it to provide low-cost banking services to low/middle-income Americans who have been left behind by the high-fee model of “traditional” banks. Today, BankMobile provides its “Bank-as-a-Service” platform to colleges and universities and currently serves nearly two million account-holders at 800 campuses (covering one out of every three students in the U.S.). BankMobile is operating as the digital banking division of Customers Bank, which is a Federal Reserve-regulated and FDIC-insured commercial bank.
